DeWalt Mitre Saw – Durable and Powerful Design
69Mitre saws are one of the most common corded power tools. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Mitre saw or miter saw is also referred to as drop saw. It is a corded machine used to make precise, quick, and accurate crosscut in a work piece. Common applications include crown molding or framing operations. A great majority of these versatile power tools are relatively small is size and portable, with common blade sizes ranging from 8 – 12’’ in diameter, although larger blades are available. The type of blade generally included with a drop saw is usually a standard blade for common applications. A drop saw is often confused with a miter box. Therefore, it is important to make a difference between a mitre saw and a mitre box. A mitre box is a box constructed from plastic or wood that allows one to make precise angle cuts with a handsaw. The drop saw makes accurate angle cuts by pulling a blade down onto a work piece. And this work piece is held against a fence.

the dewalt dw718 12 inch saw has some good features but is sadly lacking in usability in several areas .Firstly the trenchig depth stop , while being of a superior design is useless. The centre of the blade comes to a stop 3 inches your side of the fence making it impossible to continue a depth cut without a 3 or 4inch block in front of the fence making accurate trenching impossible.Secondly to my suprise when unpacking and assembling my newly aquired expensive purchase I discovered it does not come with laser as standard but is an optional extra. I also bought the dewalt saw stand to go with it and soon discovered that to cut a standard wall stud you have to fit the saw to the far extremity of the stand over the leg attachment making it impossible to use the supplied saw stop so that when you bump the saw you can,t be sure that it hasnt moved .Why not make the damned thing 200 mm longer. This lack of design thoroughness even extends to the fact that the supplied bolts to attach the dewalt saw to the dewalt table dont fit. one unhappy carpenter.
